Tile Demolition

All, I'm preparing to tear out my tiled shower and looking for some easy advice. The walls are ceramic tiles (3 sq. in.) and they were placed decades ago directly to the drywall (you can probably imagine why I'm having mold issues now). Question: Will it be easier to break each tile with a punch/hammer and then Sawzall through the wall, or will a good Sawzall blade just cut right through the tile and all? I don't want to waste 2 hours busting up tile before cutting the drywall if I don't have to. Thanks!!!

Not an expert but I would be trying to get behind the drywall and tear out large chunks of wall with the tile attached. Don't waste time trying to get the tile off first or save the drywall underneath.

A sawzall would not cut through the tile and wall. Perhaps if you tried to cut on a grout line. Just bust it up.

The best thing about installing tile on drywall is the drywall makes it really easy to demo! Even moreso if the drywall is moist.

Use a hammer to punch a hole, then just pull while wearing a good pair of gloves. It'll come out in chunks of drywall and tile. Be sure to use a mask too if there's likely mold.

A mattock is a good demo tool for tiled walls.

Punch a hole in the wall between the studs with a mini sledge. Then grab and pull. These types of showers are the easiest to demo. It will take some effort, but it should come off in chunks.

Use masking tape to cover the drain so debris doesn't get into the pipes.
