Question Wall tile vs floor tile??

Trying to pick out tile for my bathroom and I'm having a hard time getting an answer from the local bgbox stores on how to tell what tile is meant for the floor vs what is meant for the wall. I read somewhere they have different ratings for strength and antislip? I figured they would have these tiles already separated at these stores. So how do I tell the difference?

Big box store... there's the first part of the problem. About the only way to tell the difference is to look at the packaging or product documentation. You can also tell by looking at them. Many wall tiles, especially accents can be high gloss which would be slippery if used on a floor.

Got it. A lot of the smaller tiles I was interested in for my bathroom floor, the ones that come in those webbed squares were being used as wall tiles and backsplashes. So I suppose I may be able to use them for my floor also.

I would get a sample of the tile you are considering, take it home and beat it up to see if it will withstand floor use. Some wall accent tile is coated/painted and can scratch off and I've seen some that were pretty delicate ceramic.

Go to a tile store and get solid accurate information. You don't need to buy from them, but I'm betting you will once you talk to them. They know what they are doing.

Decorative tile aside the biggest factor in floor vs wall tile, ESPECIALLY IN THE SHOWER, is the tile size.

Installing large tile on a shower floor is just a slip and fall away from getting yourself killed.
