How do I make ceilings in two rooms level?!

I'm planning to remove a wall that I have dividing the kitchen and the mud room to the garage. The only issue I have is that the ceilings are two different heights. How would I raise the ceiling in the mud room to match the kitchen? I've already squared away everything else by the way! 😁🤓

Are you sure that the wall isn't load bearing? What's above those 2 rooms?

Welcome to the forums.

Not much a way of raising a ceiling. You may have to build the ceiling down to match.

it would actually be pretty strange for those two ceilings to be different heights.
Maybe the mudroom was an addition.

It's a single floor home, so above these rooms is the attic. And the home is only 6 years old so I'm pretty sure it's not an addition.. It is odd but I live in Florida, so nothing is off limits.. I have checked the blueprints and it's a superficial wall for sure.

First you need to find out why the ceiling is lower, pipes, wiring etc. in there. if just for decoration then if is just a matter of tearing out old and putting in new. May need some framing or just screw drywall to studs. Hard to tell without knowing what is under ceiling.

As mentioned above it would be odd for the two ceilings to be at different heights. Do you have access to that area in the attic? That would allow you to see how it's framed and why. Is the mud room ceiling the same height as the garage ceiling?

To keep from having to cut into the ceiling to see what is there, I recommend spending a hundred dollars for one of these at the box store. A dime size hole will give you access to what is up there. Costs a little, but repairing holes can take time, too, so it is a trade off. Once you determine what is up there, you can make an informed decision whether it is feasible or not.

Ceiling Height

Does the mud room include laundry appliances?

Are the floors in the two rooms the same height?

Some photos would help us help you.

If the ceiling height difference is just a few inches, attach a decorative beam to the ceiling where the wall was removed. With just a little patching and painting, your done. Only a star gazer, on a good day, will ever notice the difference.
