Tiling over Hardibacker adjacent to drywall

My wall is 1/2" drywall, abuts up against the shower 3/8" cement board. I want to run continuous tile across both. How to build up the cement board the extra 1/8" for even tiling??

1/2" durock or permabase would have got you an exact match. I would float it with wide mesh tape and thinset not joint compound. Personally I rarely use the thicker Hardie, although I use the 1/4" all the time. For 1/2" I use the others mentioned.

Another option is 1/2" Denshield. I agree, a better product would yield better results.

I didn't even know they made 3/8" cement board. Since it hasn't been tiled yet I wouldn't think it would be that big of a deal to tear it out and replace with 1/2" It might be helpful to tell us more about the total project.

Thank you!
I'll be replacing with the 1/2" Durock since the tiling hasn't begun yet. It's only one small section at the end of the tub/shower.
