How to attach a joist hanger to a wall?

Hi there. I purchased some of these joist hangers (please see pic) and wish to attach them to a brick wall in my garage. I was wondering if you need anchors or can normal masonry nails be used? the beams /joists will not need to hold a lot of weight at all.

thank youName: 1.jpg

How is your garage wall constructed? I don't see any "brick" in your photo.

In general I don't like masonry nails. If I had to I'd use a masonry drill to holes in the wall and use either mollys and screws or expanding masonry anchors.

You can't attach anything to a brick wall. It is only a veneer and has little if any structural advantage. Fill us in on what you are doing and why such a large hanger. It seems to be for a really wide joist, say 2x 10. What are the specification numbers on the hanger?
