Durock vs DensShield

I'm installing an acrylic shower base and would like some advice on the backer board around the shower. Of course I'll be tiling it, but I would like to know if I should install Durock or DensShield (both are available here). From what I've read, it looks like they are both suitable. DensShield is easier to work with (basically just drywall with a water proof membrane), whereas the Durock is basically a cement board so it's a bit harder to work with. I would appreciate your advice.

Thanks !

DensShield is easier to work with imo, and it is a smoother surface. If you can get the 4x8 sheets that helps too.

Thanks XSleeper ! If I go with DensShield do I need to coat it with Redgard ? Also what should I use for joints (based on reading the posts, it sounds like mesh tape and mortar ?)...

Yes, Redgard over everything. Alkali resistant fiberglass tape and mortar joints just like cement board.

If you want a truly waterproof shower, one that you never, ever, have to worry about leaks for get the Redguard and go with Prova or Ditra membrane.
