Vaulting a a ceiling

I have a 24 x 40 ranch with a 6/12 pitch. 2x6 roof rafters and ceiling joists. I also have a 6x8 main beam running the length of the foundation. One end of the ridge beam will be supported by the gable end foundation while the other will be supported by the 6x8 main beam in the basement., What i really need to know is what size ridge beam will i need to support the roof. I do live in the north east.

Strangers on the Internet cannot do structural engineering for your house sight unseen. There are span tables available online you can consult. Your local inspectors may require a professional Engineer to design your beam, beam supports and footer.
