Cutting and folding sheet rock

I have to buy 6 pieces of 12 foot Sheetrock for a protect but it is raining and at least 3 foot will be sticking out the back of my van. With 30 miles round trip the sheet rock will be ruined.

Can I cut the back half of the sheet and leave the front uncut and bend the sheet in half so it will fit in the van. Then just straighten it back out when I put it on the wall?

i seem to remember doing something like this years ago to get large sheet down the basement. But it never hurts to check.

Any help appreciated.

I have done what you suggest, and while it worked OK for me, you still end up with a ridge in the sheet where it is cut because the two parts do not go back together perfectly. In my case it wasn't a big deal because it was behind a cabinet.

I would recommend just getting a tarp and cover the rock up tight. for the trip home.

Place two 2x4x12s under it and tarp it. It would never stay together from the truck to the house.

How to drywall and caulk? Step Sequence

Ok, so this is an easy general question - that I can't find the exact sequence of steps for drywalling and caulking a single frame 2 leaf wall. Let's just focus on the one leaf... what are the steps once the wall is framed, electrical is run etc.? Assume the inner leaf will NOT be on RC and will just consist of a layer of 1/2" and 5/8" drywall screwed to the studs. Where do I caulk? Do I start caulking the perimeter of the wall before hanging any drywall [URL]https://mechanicguides.com/sanders-for-drywall/[/URL] ? Do I then caulk around each sheet of drywall? and then squish the next piece of drywall to the other already hung piece of drywall repeating this til all drywall for the 1st layer is done? Or forget that - Do I just run some caulk over the joint between each piece of drywall? Then how does the drywall joint compound and tape work on top of that? Or is it just use acoustical caulk wherever there is a small gap (along the floor and ceiling perimeter) and just drywall as normal... hang drywall, tape, joint compound, screw next layer with 1/4" gap from the floor and repeat? I just can't find the clearest instructions on the actual steps of hanging the drywall and doing caulking for a studio type wall... I removed a bathroom in a bonus room upstairs. The walls of the bathroom met the existing walls between the 24" on center roof trusses. No structure was added to back up the joint. Can I back the drywall joint with a 1 X 3 , screws and fiber tape or is it better to remove another 16 inches of drywall to hit a truss ? ThanksRead More
