Metal stud wall installation question

I am prepping to install metal studs around the internal perimeter of my gut reno home. The walls & ceiling were plaster and lathe and is now ripped down to brick and wood studs b/w the bricks. This is a 100 year old 3 family home - internal measurement 18’ x 56’. I’m working on the top floor. It has a pitched roof that slopes downwards towards the back of the building. The bottom of the roof joists are 14’ higher than the subfloor in the front and 12’ higher in the back. Planned ceiling height is 10'.

My initial plan was to screw the metal track to the bottom of the ceiling joists. But ceiling joists have peaks and valleys everywhere and are somewhat twisted. So I went to plan B.

Plan B is to screw a 2”x3” wood stud into the wood frame of the house at the correct height all around the interior. I’m using a laser to level. And then attach the metal track to the 2x3 stud. I did a test run in a small area and it seems to work no problem.

Bottom track will be aligned with the top track using a laser plumb bob.

Is this method of attaching the top metal track acceptable?

 

I'm not a carpenter but I see a lot of framing with steel studs. I see nothing wrong with your plan.
