Can someone give a brief tutorial on Rheem Gas

I've installed a couple 50 gal Performance Platinum gas heaters. Plug in the cord, flip the switch and they start like magic. What is the ignition source in these? Q&A's on the HD site says they will work with the power out. If so, what does the power do? Just confused.

The 120 power provides the spark ignition. I suspect the HD site is incorrect unless there is a backup battery. Not the first time I have seen a typo on HD website.

Yup spark ignition as well as a flue damper. Unit will not work without electric..

Thanks, guys. I thought I had lost all cognitive reasoning. Logic told me that the reason for power was elimination of the standing pilot, but the HD replies left me wondering. Is that damper at the top of the flue powered or thermally actuated? Never mind. Mike answered my question>

BTW the HD site has 4 answers to the question, all stating it will work without power.

All powered by 24 volts..

Just go to HD site and click on instructions... There is a schematic on one of those PDF's I was just looking at...
