Giant GE gas(propane) water heater no vent.
I bought an old, big house. It has a very large GE water heater that's run off gas ( propane). What's odd is it is not vented- there is not even a place to vent it. It just has a screw in for the cold water, gas ,hot water and a 1/2" copper pipe going to the drain. There is no opening on top for venting- just the hot copper pipe. This thing is huge and works very well. The house is heated by boiler heating many cast iron radiators.

A water heater running on propane would have to have a vent or flue to outside.
If it didn't.... the house would be full of exhaust fumes in several hours.
It sounds like a hot water storage tank heated by your boiler.
I'd like to see a picture of it. How-to-insert-pictures
So.... that aside..... how can we help you ?

I will have to look at it again. It must be 40 years old
If it is a GE branded storage tank it's probably more like 50 to 60 years old.....or older. It's been about that long (or longer) since GE made a hot water type product.
