Peerless boiler heats my water?

Hi.

I know nothing about boilers, but I have a Peerless boiler only for hot water and baseboard heating in a small 900sf ranch house built in 1971.

Can anyone help me to understand how this works basically? Here's some questions I have:

1. Do I have what's called "direct heating", since there's a small tank on the side of the boiler? Is that where the hot water for a bath or whatever comes from?

2. How do the base board heaters work in conjunction with the boiler?

For example. Is the water heated in that little tank and then pumped up to the copper pipes inside the base board heaters for heat?

3. Not that I need to, but I notice the bath water doesn't keep hot coming out of the tap for too long. I have to either slow it to a crawl or shut it down and let it get hot again. Would adding a secondary hot water heater help? Do I have to in general? I've got a small house.

Thanks
