Electric water heater help

my electric water heater doesn’t produce a lot of hot water. I took off the thermostat cover and noticed the lower wire looked like it burned. Any thoughts? Can I just reconnect the wire?

Welcome to the forums!
It would be nice to know why the wire burnt, could be as simple as a bad connection but also could be something more serious. Could you post a pic of the wire? How to insert pictures.

I would cut off the burnt end, strip the remaining wire and re-terminate it.
