Shopping for a whole house softening system

Just bought a house with a well (first time I've lived with one) and I'm shopping for a system. The water is not bad, but could be better. It runs clear but settling will start to show up when left standing for long periods (e.g. toilets). I've got two sets of water results; I'll list out just the relevant info.

The first from a local lab through the home inspection:
pH 7.4
Hardness 95 mg/L
Iron 0.87 mg/L
Manganese 0.14 mg/L

The second is from a local Kinetico dealer:
pH 8.0
Hardness 4 (no units listed, I assume gpg)
TDS 310 mg/L
Total Iron 0.3 mg/L
Ferric Iron 0.2 mg/L
Soluble Iron 0.1 mg/L
Manganese 0.15 mg/L

I was quoted a Kinetico Premier Series system for $3790 (w/ prefilter, 120 lbs salt, and labor). From a technical point of view, I can see the draw of such a system, but that sure is expensive.

I'm obviously new to this whole business, so what do you all think? Do I need a system this expensive, or are there recommended alternatives I should be looking at?
