Under-sink water filtration system or whole house filtration system

We are debating about whether to get the RO under the sink water filtration system or the whole house filtration system.
The fist will cost 300-400 for a three-filter system and the second will cost 3500-4000.
Can anyone explain the pros or cons of both systems?
Thank you in advance.

They are basically 2 different animals.

The RO system is a point of use, your purifying the water with filters and a RO membrane to provide pure water to a dedicated faucet. It's also possible to plumb the water from the RO to your refrigerator to get chilled water and clean ice.

You mention whole house filter, that is nothing more than a large cartridge filter that filters out the crud in the water. Sediment, partials, some insoluble rust etc. It's now where as efficient as the RO.

I have both, the whole house filters, actually 2, pre-clean the water before going to the water softner and the carbon filter, then it goes to the RO system. Just depends on how much you need, or want to "polish" the water you use.

The costs you mention, for the RO that is about right, for the whole house that is extremely high because a whole house filter is about the same cost as an RO system unless your referring to something other than a simple filte.
