Cutting a squat rack (or lengthening some stands)

Hi,

I work out at home and have a shorter length bar that I like to use. That means if I want to buy a commercial squat or power rack, I need to reduce the width so the bar will rack properly. Here are two racks I'm looking at:

My other option is to buy some squad stands and extend the length of the arms (so I can put a bar on top and do pull-ups).

Which of these is going to be easier to do? What tools will I need?

Thanks for any suggestions

Easier to see the stands side by side so I combined and posted them for you.
I expanded the pics but there is only limited definition.

I don't like the idea of extending arms at all.

How are the units assembled ? Nuts and bolts ? Welded ?

The unit on the left looks there are nuts and bolts in connecting plates but it looks like the cross arms are welded to the mounting plates.

The unit on the right may be the easier one to modify.

I am not sure other than looking at the images and guessing. I assume the pieces will need to be assembled because shipping is low.

Is extending the squat stand arms unreasonable as a DIY? Those stands are the easiest to tuck away.
