Mounting pull-up bar on carport support pole?
This is sort of an odd question and I don't quite know which forum it fits in, so I'm starting here as a guess.
I two have 3-1/2" steel structural poles holding up the roof on one side of the carport. Both spans are about 8'. I'm planning on using the one in the middle of the span, not at the corner. There's only crawlspace above, no attic or 'bonus' room. How might I safely hang a pull-up bar on the pole?
I'm thinking it will need at least two attachment points to allow for torsion on the bar. Is it suicidally stupid to drill holes through the pole? If it's possible, ballpark numbers, what's the largest hole you would consider sensible/sane?
Would welding a mounting bracket to it be a safer/smarter solution?

You probably will want a bar much larger in diameter than what you can drill through the post. Welding would probably be a better option.
