shallow well pump
I have a 2nd well that is just used for watering the garden etc. I have bought the 1hp pumps with pressure tanks attached from Harbor freight or Menards in the past but they only seem to last a couple years. I just hooked it up today and it is shot.
Do I need a pressure tank or can I just get a jet pump?

If you buy a quality pump you'll get quality service from it.
Depending on the type of watering system... a pump itself may work.

Possible, I always drain the pump and put it in the shop. I have nasty sulfur water that seems to eat the pumps also.

It can't wreck everything !
I had a centrifugal pump (a Goulds) in my barn that was allowed to freeze, and only the plastic (nylon?) impeller was distorted.
When I bought this farm 29 years ago, the milking parlour was also a graveyard for old pumps (and some almost new) whose problems were never diagnosed. I could always find replacement parts by mining the corpses of those which had been discarded. Not many were completely "shot" !
