Drain Field Separation Test after wet season

Drain Field Separation Test after wet season
Our development has two shared drain fields with seven houses on each. The drain fields were installed in 2000 and at the time they were installed we had about three feet of separation at each drain field. Recently, our county started to require drain field certifications with the sale of homes so when a neighbor recently sold their home a separation test was performed and the results showed about one foot of separation which is below the requirement of three feet. We have had a very wet winter and spring so it seems to me that the separation is obviously going to be low currently so I am wondering if its worth pursuing a postponement on the testing/certification until later in the year after things dry out a bit? Or we could also apply for a variance of the ordinance. This situation has all the neighbors on edge as a new drain field would be expensive and we don't want to have this issue happen again in the future.
