Question I need to stop odors for hole in floor with unused pipes

I have a 1'x2' hole in my concrete floor with steel diamond plate as a lid in a high traffic area that has a bad sewage smell coming from it. i just need to stop the odor from coming thru and have been assured that i will never need the hole or pipes with in ever again. What is the best way to stop the smell and not hinder people being able to use the floor. I was thinking an acrylic sealant but am unsure if that will block odor. thanks for your time any advice is welcomed and appreciated

Are the pipes still attached to something? The smell must be coming from something. Whatever they are connect to, does the source have another exit for the smell (and possible pressure) to exit?

Welcome to the forums.

Without knowing 100% what it is..... you wouldn't want to permanently block it off.
Try gluing the diamond plate cover down with silicone to seal it.

My first thought is that there is a sewer leak in/under the slab.

Are you connected to a city sewer line or do you have a private septic system?

Trying to block the sewer smell will only force it to look for another entrance. You need to find the source, as suggested, and eliminate it. This is a health issue and shouldn't be swept under that diamond plate.

A lot of unknowns,

Can pipes be capped? Fermco type rubber caps at least will allow you to get back to them if needed!

Not sure how plate is attached or set on floor, some soft butyl tape to make long term robust gasket.

"have been assured that i will never need the hole or pipes with in ever again."
The above seems to indicate that you have had plumbing done under the floor.
Never needing pipes again usually means that the pipers have been disconnected.

If yes to the above what was done and a lot more info is needed.
