There are lots of materials that you can use to make a shed roof. The two most commonly used materials are metal and composite shingles. Each of these options has its own set of pros and cons.
Metal Roof for a Shed
One of the easiest roofing systems to add to a shed is a metal roof. Metal roofs are corrugated and structured to improve water channeling and to make waterproofing more effective. This type of shed roof is quick to install, low maintenance and is weather-resistant.
To install a metal roof on a shed, you need to nail down wooden nailer strips and then fasten the metal panels to the strips. Metal roofs come in a variety of colors that you can coordinate with your shed and home color palettes.
Composite Roof Shingles
Roof shingles will create a more traditional look that will better complement your home’s roofing system. Roof shingles come in several styles, colors and textures. They require slightly more work during the installation and maintenance phases of roofing.
To install roof shingles, you need to lay down an underlayment and lay overlapping rows of roof shingles. Roof maintenance will include replacing shingles and nailing down shingles that have been loosened by the wind.
