1. Living Coral Dry-Erase Board

The Pantone color of the year 2019 in living coral.

Tools and Materials:

  • Any size frame
  • Paint
  • Paint brush

Each year, a Pantone color is selected. This year’s is the ever-vibrant “living coral,” providing those embracing the trend with a bright and sunny pop of color. While there are many projects that can incorporate this hue, one we love is to incorporate this color into your kitchen or office space with a colorful dry-erase message board. While you may be under the impression that this is difficult to make, you’re mistaken. The secret to this project is to get a frame that you can hang on the wall in the size of your choosing and to paint one side of the frame’s glass it in the beautiful Pantone color of coral. Once the paint dries, add it back into the frame with the painted side facing inward. Hang the frame on the wall and, just like that, you have a functional dry-erase board that doubles as a colorful accent.

2. Boho Chic Tray

Tools and Materials:

  • Different sized metal or wooden trays
  • Vibrantly colored and patterned paper or wrapping paper
  • Mod Podge
  • Paint brush
  • Spray paint (optional)

Reminiscent of the bohemian or, some may even say, hippie look, the boho chic design trend is one that promises to be bountiful in 2019. From floor pillows to draped canopies, there are many directions you can take this idea. For an easy project to add some boho charm to your home, consider creating decoupage trays, which are versatile enough to fit into almost any room of your home.

For this project, you’ll need old metal or wooden trays, a paint brush, Mod Podge, and patterned craft or wrapping paper. Remember that bohemian style is characterized by bright and vibrant colors, floral patterns, or eye-catching geometric shapes. One of the best things about this project is that you can completely customize it to match the style of your home or specific room, picking the tray size, shape, and colors as you see fit.

Start this project by spreading a layer of Mod Podge along the bottom of the tray, then carefully layer scraps of paper until it's completely covered. You can either use paper with one pattern or combine different patterns for extra flair. Paint the Mod Podge atop the paper in a smooth layer so that it's stuck down completely, letting your creation dry overnight.

If you would like to leave the edges of your tray exposed, but are looking to give it a makeover or wish it was a different color, make the first step of this project spray painting the tray and letting it dry before you begin decoupaging.

3. Eco-Friendly Upcycled Accents

Tools and Materials:

  • Empty jars
  • Knobs
  • Spray paint
  • Hot glue gun

Going green certainly isn’t a new trend, but with each passing year, it’s more and more prevalent in our lives and homes. For that reason, eco-friendly design ideas are more popular than ever. To incorporate this trend into the decor of your home, there are a wide range of DIY projects that you can enjoy. One of these easy projects involves upcycling jars. These can be anything from Mason jars to empty salsa jars. Why not recycle these in an attractive way that also renders them useful in your home?

This project is a simple one. Gather empty jars and peel off all labels, using an adhesive remover as needed. Using a hot glue gun, glue a knob of your choosing to the top of the jar. Spray paint the top whichever color you like and let dry. After that, you have eco-friendly and beautiful storage jars to use in your kitchen, bathroom, or office. These even look good on bookcases as style pieces, too.
