5 Floor Sander Types

1. Heavy Duty Sanders

Drum sanders are bulky, heavy-duty sanders. These are for your toughest jobs. They will be able to tackle any floor that you have. Just be aware that it will be stripping a lot of floor in the process, so use caution. These sanders are more appropriate for renting as they only have one use and are very expensive. Not all locations carry these large sanders. Be sure that with any place you rent your sander from that they do, in fact, carry drum sanders.

2. Smoothing Sanders

Vibrating sanders will smooth out the wood after you have used something like a drum sander. Vibrating sanders are much lighter and easier to manage than the aforementioned drum sander. These sanders will glide across the floor and pose no threat to your wood. These can be easily found at tool yards and help get your wood down to its smoothest finish.

3. Edge Sanders

An edge sander will obviously work the edges of your wood. To get to all of those places that are hard to reach with the other sanders, this one will get the job done for you. Edge sanders are much smaller than drum sanders, as they are handheld. Edge Sanders tend to have dust bags attached to them. While these sanders are small, they provide a lot of power, and they will get the job done.

4. Belt Sanders

A belt sander is electric; a rotating brush that is abrasive is on it. These types of sanders work best on round surfaces. They can trim, sand, and level these areas.

5. Sander Vacuum

It is no secret that sander machines can create quite a mess. While most have bags that can catch most of the dust, dust can still very easily cause a huge mess in your home. A sander vacuum will help buff up your floor after you have sanded it, as well as get rid of all of the dust left behind. Sanding can be a difficult job, and once you have finished having to clean up can be a bit of a pain.
