Commercial pressure washers are generally of two types: gas pressure washers (powered by gasoline) and electrical pressure washers (powered by electricity). Electrical models are mainly used for indoor cleaning and specific cleaning tasks. Gas pressure washers are smaller units and portable. They can be carried to any place without much trouble.
Gas pressure washers are specifically designed to cater outdoor cleaning jobs. With sufficient gas power, these machines can function for a longer time. They give the flexibility to clean any surface such as wooden decks, driveways, sidings, garage floors, and cars. Here are 6 steps to using a gas pressure washer.
Step 1 - Preliminary Adjustments
Before setting up a gas pressure washer, read the operation manual that comes with the machine. Take some time to familiarize with the different parts of the machine, and follow the directions to operate the machine effectively and safely. Before operating, always check for the oil and gas that is filled in the machine. Always use clean and unleaded gasoline for safety purposes.
Check the pressure washer hood and other parts for any signs of damage. If necessary, troubleshoot and replace damaged parts with new parts. Attach one end of the hose pipe to the spray gun and the other end to the high pressure outlet. Ensure that all the connections are intact and tight. Before attaching the hose to the water inlet of the machine, ensure that there is an adequate supply of clean water. The machine should now be ready to operate.
Step 2 - Checking the Water Flow and Pressure
The next step is to determine the water flow for the required task. For example, cleaning a siding or a fence requires low pressure washing, whereas cleaning hard-stained surface requires high pressure washing.
Step 3 - Determining the Nozzle Angle
Select a nozzle in relation to the required angle. The nozzle is connected to the hose of the pressure washer. It determines the water pressure. The narrower the nozzle angle, the higher the pressure. Generally different types of nozzles are included with the models. The operator manual provides detailed information about the nozzles and their appropriate usage. Other accessories such as extension wands can be used for reaching high places with the nozzle.
Step 4 - Setting the Detergent Injector
Most of the models have a detergent injector or special nozzle to add detergents or degreasers with the pressure spray. Consult the operating manual regarding how to add detergents to the pressure washer. Always use detergents or degreasers that are compatible with the high pressure washer.
Step 5 - Checking the Connections
Before starting the cleaning process, ensure that all connections are tight. A loose connection can be dangerous for both the operator and the machine.
Step 6 - Cleaning Process
Start the machine and test the water flow and pressure. Adjust the nozzle to obtain the desired pressure and start cleaning the surface. The ideal position for cleaning a surface is approximately three to four feet away from the object. If any detergent or degreaser is used, allow it to soak the dirt for five to 10 minutes before rinsing it away.
