Bedroom bookshelves can be much more than simple wood loaded down with books. It is easy to design kids bookshelves around things that make them smile and reflect their individual tastes. Some kids like sports, while others enjoy dolls, video games and TV, which basically means, all kids are different. Creating something enjoyable in their bedroom to look at, as well as use on a daily basis may keep them in their room longer. Here are 8 decorating themes for bookshelves in kids’ rooms that could change their study habits.
Idea 1 - Barbie
Girls love Barbie, so why not create an entire bookshelf around Barbie by using the logo, cutting out magazine clippings or drawing her favorite Barbie doll’s likeness on the shelves. If your daughter has a Barbie collection, think about displaying several of her favorite dolls on the shelves or put them shadow boxes to help preserve them if they are collectibles.
Idea 2 - Sports
Most boys are into sports, so center on your son’s favorite sport and create a theme around it. If it’s baseball, paint the shelves in his team’s favorite color and add its trademark. For example, if he likes the NY Yankees, use white and blue paint to paint the shelves, hand hooks form the shelves and hang his baseball hats. Frame game books and baseball card and place on the shelves, too.
Idea 3 - Animals
Using an animal theme is a good way to make the shelves more inviting. If our child likes dogs, place stuffed animal dogs with books and other items on the shelves. Cover the bookshelves sin animal print wallpaper or contact paper. Trim the book shelves in faux fur that pick sup one of the colors in the bedroom.
Idea 4 - Tropical
Turn a bookshelf into something you might see in the tropics with palm tree lamps, colorful books, plants and on the wall behind the shelves, tack up a poster from a favorite vacation spot.
Idea 5 - Princess
Girls like to pretend they are princesses or movie stars, so why not add as a backdrop to the shelves with mirrors or spruce up the shelving with framed art of their favorite celebrity. Add cosmetic boxes, earring trees and jewelry boxes and nail in hooks so she can hang her favorite items.
Idea 6 - Awards
Make your kid’s shelves super special by placing all their awards on the shelves like ribbons, medals, and trophies. Arrange from tallest to smallest and/or most favored by asking your child which award he/she wants to be noticed first.
Idea 7 - College
If you have older children, consider a shelve with his/her favorite college or university items like mascots, photos of the school, logos, pennants, and anything related to the college that would be a conversation piece.
Idea 8 - Favorite Movies
Design a theme around your child’s favorite movie or TV show by displaying items directly related to the movie. For example, if you child is into Star Trek, add dolls, action figures, and frame photos of posters of the movie placing them on the walls. Stock shelves with Sci-Fi items or collectibles. If it’s The Wizard of Oz, show off OZ items like plates, dolls, books, and more.
