8 Tips for Properly Using Eggshell Paint
Eggshell paint gets its name, as the finish resembles the low sheen and luster of an eggshell with a slight tint of gloss. The painted surface is easy to clean and more durable than most other paints. The article discusses some common tips for using eggshell paint.
1. Manufacturer's Reputation
When buying eggshell paint, ensure you buy a container from a reputable brand as there is a significant difference between the results and durability of low-quality and high-quality paints.
2. Getting Ready
It is a good idea to fill all holes in the surface with the help of spackling solution and putty knife. Ensure they are completely dry before applying the paint. The walls must be cleaned using a damp cloth. This will ensure the paint will stick better to the surface.
3. Cleaning the Surface
If the surface is really dirty, clean it using a solution of tri-sodium phosphate. Use the solution after carefully reading the instructions given by the manufacturer. Ensure your hands are covered with rubber gloves when using the solution.
4. Bringing Consistency
Before applying the paint, stir the pain using a stick or a rod from the bottom up. This must be done for two to three minutes to bring the paint to a smooth consistency.
5. Painting Strokes
When painting, ensure the paintbrush or roller is moved in one direction only. Use single strokes and apply pressure on the down stroke. Repeat the pressure until you see a consistent and wet look.
6. Painting Direction
Start painting from the edges and move towards the center. Similarly, paint from top to bottom. The walls must be air-dried completely before going for a second coat.
7. Paint Spills
Do not fret if you spill some eggshell paint as damp paint can be cleaned up with plain water. However, it is a good idea to remove all furniture, showpieces, and curtains that are close to the surface. Tape all areas around the trim near windows, and doorways to avoid splashes and extra cleaning.
8. Cross Ventilation
Ensure the room is airy and ventilated. It is also a good idea to use rubber gloves, safety glasses, and old clothing for safety purposes and easy cleaning.
