Since more and more people prefer to use bamboo flooring, you might find it necessary to learn the easy steps in bamboo flooring installation. For several years, bamboo floors have been widely used as a replacement for hardwood flooring because of their timeless look and their environmentally-friendly features. Because it is a grass that easily matures, bamboo can be harvested more often than hardwood.
To help you with your bamboo flooring installation, here are some easy to follow tips:
Step 1 - Calculate Amount
Determine the size of the room where you would like to install the bamboo flooring. Estimate how much flooring you will need based on the measurements you have. Make sure that you do not overestimate or underestimate the bamboo flooring.
Step Two - Clean Room
Make sure to empty the room. If possible remove all your closet or entrance doors, or anything that can disturb or hinder your bamboo flooring installation.
Step 3 - Get Glue
Purchase the right adhesive for your bamboo flooring. Urethane wood floor adhesive is an appropriate option instead of water-based adhesives. But since there are different types of such Urethane adhesives, check the label and make sure it is fit for your bamboo flooring. You should also estimate the amount of glue and the approximate area you would like to cover.
Step 3 - Prep Surface
Check the subfloor. Make sure it is free from residue and debris. Old adhesives should also be scrapped. If it is quite difficult to remove, use paint thinner and degreasing cleaner like dish soap to remove all the residues. Staples, small wires, nails, thumbtacks, and other materials should also be taken away.
Step - Cut to Size
Your blanks should be ready for installation. Starting with your chosen area, lay out the bamboo flooring for several rows. Pick different sizes and cuts so will be able to design your flooring. If the bamboo flooring cuts are laid out carefully, you will be able to place them perfectly after the adhesive is placed.
Step 5 - Apply Adhesive
To distribute the glue, make use of a notched adhesive trowel. You may check the label of the urethane wood floor adhesive for the specific trowel size you will need. You should also consider the directions and precautions on the label such as the right temperature and ventilation ratios. The adhesive should not dry out before the installation. Be sure to use a sufficient amount of adhesive and spread only to an area where you will be able to work for less than 45 minutes.
Step 6 - Lay Flooring
Place the bamboo on the floor and make sure the grooves face the wall and the planks are appropriately placed together. Check if there are adhesives that stick on top of the wood and swab it away before it dries. Cover only one row at a time and ensure that the bamboo planks are aligned before you proceed to another section of the area.
Step 7 - Tamp Down
To help the flooring stick well to the adhesive, walk around on several sections of the floor approximately 30 minutes after the installation. You can also place some books or other slightly heavy objects on top to level the floor until the adhesive dries.
Step 8 - Expand
Repeat the same procedures in installing bamboo flooring in other areas of your house. Always be mindful of the time it takes for the Urethane wood floor adhesive to dry.
