Baseboard Heaters vs Space Heaters
If you are trying to decide whether to use baseboard heaters or space heaters, there are some things that should be considered. For instance, some of the considerations are the expense, the efficiency and the size of both types of units.
Pros and Cons of Baseboard Heaters
Baseboard heaters work well when used in spaces where there may be a draft, such as under a window in an older home. Baseboard heaters work best when there is a temperature gauge, and the heat can be monitored and used according to need. Baseboard heaters are efficient in terms of being able to turn off the heat in the rooms you don't need to heat, or at least keeping them at a lower temperature. The downside of baseboard heating is the necessity of keeping all furniture and other items well away from it; it can be a tremendous fire hazard.
Pros and Cons of Space Heaters
Space heaters are efficient in terms of placement; you can put them wherever you want to use them without moving furniture. Of course, it is still necessary to keep items away from the heater to prevent fires but the options are more flexible. Space heaters are great for smaller homes and apartments.
In terms of cost, it will cost you about the same amount to heat with space heaters that it would to run a baseboard heater, per room.
