Bending Aluminum Trim For Siding
Aluminum trim provides protection for the exposed areas over the roof. It protects bare areas where lumber and other items may be placed. Bending trim is an important process that can be accomplished by most do-it-yourselfers.
You will need a brake or capping machine that bends the aluminum. This can be obtained through a home improvement or hardware store. It can also be rented at an equipment rental store. If you are unable to obtain a brake, you can use a combination square.
Using a combination square will require more effort to make the bends than using a brake or capping machine. There are rollers that are industrial machines that can create bends and folds in the aluminum. These machines use a coil feed that creates a seamless trim.
Create a Bend in the Aluminum
Use a utility knife to create cuts across the aluminum. This will make it easier for the capping machine to bend the aluminum into the desired form. Bring the fold from the cut marks that you made upward 90 degrees. This will create the shape of the cap and it will then be ready to be installed to the roof. Repeat this process as often as necessary to complete the trim.
