Black and Decker Workbench Buying Guide
The Black and Decker workbench is referred to as a "Workmate." There are five models to choose from, and all offer the ability to be portable. These are convenient workbenches because they clamp the tools you need, such as a saw, right on the workmate. This is handy so that you're not hunting down what you need as you're working on projects. The work surfaces are sturdy and they even come with under-the-bench storage.
Workmate 425
The Workmate® 425 Portable Project Center and Vice (model number: WM425) has a weight capacity of 550 pounds and has a steel gauge frame. It's a workbench and sawhorse in one that you can use for a variety of projects, such as cutting or sculpting. One of the perks of using a Workmate 425 is the clamping capability. Its One-Handed Clamp™ System means that you can adjust the clamps together or independently. You can also adjust the legs in order to lower it for heavy objects and raise it for close cutting. The Workmate 425 comes with 4 swivel pegs and measures 29 inches by 20 5/8 inches, and the bench height is 30 inches. It has a two-year warranty.
Workmate 225 and 225SB
The Workmate® 225 Portable Project Center and Vice and the Workmate Portable Project Center with Storage (model numbers: WM225 and WM225SB) are basically the same, with the latter having storage capability. They both have a weight capacity of 450 pounds. The Workmate 225SB has a storage pouch that attaches under the benchtop and around the legs. The pouch is strong and durable enough to hold the many tools you'll use for your projects.
Like the Workmate 425, you can adjust the Workmate 225 and Workmate 225SB to two heights, so you can adjust it for specific projects. A unique feature of this workbench is the adjustable rear jaw for clamping materials. This offers more flexibility for your storage of saws and other tools that you can clamp right on your workbench. When you're done with projects, fold the bench and put it away for easy storage, or take it with you to another worksite.
Workmate 125
The Workmate Portable Project Center and Vise (model number: WM125) has the lowest weight capacity of all the Workmate models: 350 pounds. It has a steel frame construction with a wooden benchtop. However, it's designed to be lightweight and compact, making it easy to carry and store. It comes with four swivel pegs and a two-year warranty.
Portable
This is the only workbench among the Black and Decker workbenches available that's designed a little bit differently from the rest. It has a weight capacity of 400 pounds and comes with a storage shelf underneath to store supplies. The Workmate top measures 33-1/4 inches by 21-1/2 inches and folds for easy storage.
