It is important to note that car dent repair techniques can be learned with dedication and, especially, research. If you are a beginner, please remember that if at some point you don’t feel up to it, then stop and consult a professional car sprayer. The hardest part of this job is finding the right type of paint. This can take some time, especially if you have a color made out of a series of mix and base colors.
(Method one: Finding the Right Paint Color By Registration)
Step 1: Paperwork
The first thing to do is to take out the paperwork that was given to you when you bought the car. Look for a long registration number and take note of it.
Step 2: The Internet
If you do not have the necessary paperwork, then don’t despair. Just try to find it using the Internet. Normally, the color registration number can be found in the official manufacture’s web site. If not, try to call the customer care support and see if they can give you a hand. If the latter doesn’t work, go to a local car dealer and try to get it from there. Give the dealership the car registration details so that they can give you the VIN number. The service desk can easily find the VIN number with the car registration details.
Step 3: The Color Code
Once you have obtained the VIN number, the service desk can also give you the exact color registration number for you model. The VIN number isn’t always a sure bet, but at least with the VIN number and the car registration details, the job should be made simpler. Once you have been given the correct color code, then all you have to do is go back on the Internet and find a company that has that particular paint available for purchase.
(Method two: When The Paint Is Not The Original One)
The task is much more challenging when the paint of the car isn’t the stock paint provided by the manufacturer. The latter can be a very difficult problem, especially if the car is a secondhand one, and you don’t have any accurate details of who did the re-painting of the car.
Step 1: Try Method One
The first thing to do is to try your luck with the first method mentioned above.
Step 2: Using the Internet
The internet can be a valuable resource when trying to find the exact paint code. You could try to search for a chart with color example and try to compare it with the color of your car.
Step 3: Local Dealers and Professional Sprayers
If you don’t have any idea at all, try to seek professional consultation either from a local car dealership or a professional car sprayer.
Step 4: Re-Paint
The last thing to consider is to repaint the whole car with a totally different type of color.
As you can see, trying to find the exact paint color after undergoing a car dent repair can prove to be very difficult, so make sure to remember where you put your car registration paperwork, which can simplify a lot of things.
