If you want to clean aluminum siding without damaging the environment, you can use biodegradable cleaners that are as effective as traditional cleaning solutions. Most siding cleaners contain a mixture of solvents, mold killers, and even pesticides, none of which are particularly good for the planet. By considering eco-friendly options, clean aluminum siding doesn't come at the expense of the planet.

Use a Green Cleaner

It is possible to find environmentally-friendly cleaning products which are suitable for use on your aluminum siding. The main problem with using these kinds of cleaners, gentle though they are, is that they still require a pressure washer to push the cleaner onto the siding. The use of large amounts of water to clean your siding is definitely not green. As an alternative, you could mix the green cleaner in with a bucket of water, and use this to clean aluminum siding on your home. However, you may decide that you want to do without store-bought cleaners entirely.

Use Biodegradable Cleaner

You may also choose to use a biodegradable laundry powder. These are tested to be environmentally friendly, and can be used with success on your aluminum siding. You add around six cups of laundry powder to your bucket of water, and mix it around. Then apply it to the sidings of your home by using a mop to paint it on, as though the bucket were a paint pot, and the mop a paint roller.

Use Elbow Grease

Cleaning the sidings by hand is not much fun, but it is a lot more environmentally friendly than using a pressure washer. Take a plain bucket of water, and an old garden broom. Dip the broom in the water bucket, and then start using it to scrub down the siding. If you work hard enough, you will find you can get a lot of the stains removed from your siding using simple muscle power. And you won't need to go to the gym this week, as cleaning the sidings will give you enough of a work out.

Getting Rid of Mold

Aluminum sidings are vulnerable to mold. One way of removing mold without damaging the environment is simply to wipe off any visible mold with a cloth. However, the risk of dry rot and mold penetrating the home drives most people to try something stronger. Rather than use a dangerous mold killer, try mixing together a cup of water, a teaspoon of vinegar, and a teaspoon of baking soda. Together, this liquid should clean off any mold, and will also discourage it from growing again in the same place.
