Cleaning Flexible Ducts
If you need to clean a flexible duct it is best to follow a few basic steps. This is just what we shall be discussing hereunder. It is very important to clean flexible ducts on a regular basis so as to ensure that the whole system is working properly. Besides, proper maintenance will help to avoid health hazards and possible damages.
Tools and Materials Needed:
- Screwdriver
- Rags
- Ladder
- Bucket
- Water
- Soap
- Vacuum cleaner
Step 1 - Turn Off Power
First of all remember to turn off the power supply that is connected to the system where the flexible ducts are included.
Step 2 - Unscrewing the Vents
Most flexible ducts are found behind vents. These vents are fastened by means of screws in most cases, so you will need to unscrew them.
Step 3 - Vacuuming
Once you have found the ducts you should use a small handheld vacuum cleaner to remove as much dust and loose dirt as possible.
Step 4 - Wipe
If you notice that there is a substantial amount of dirt you should mix some soap and warm water in a bucket. Then, immerse a rag in the bucket and use it to wipe the areas you can reach, and the vents as well.
Step 5 - Dry
When done, use a dry rag to wipe everything dry. This is very important, so as to avoid water residues from remaining in there, and the possible emergence of mold later.
Step 6 - Replacing
If the system includes any filters you should check whether they need to be replaced.
Step 7 - Screwing
You can mount everything back into place and screw the vent again.
