Cleaning Tips for Engraved Brick Pavers

Engraved brick pavers can pose several cleaning problems. In addition to cleaning them like smooth pavers, you must deal with the engraved areas.

You Will Need

  • Broom
  • Bucket
  • Scrub brush
  • Household cleaner
  • Bleach
  • Scrub brush
  • Power washer

Step 1: Preparation

Always keep your engraved brick pavers swept clean. Dirt and debris can settle into the engraving, collect water and grow mold or mildew, or turn dark as the debris decays. It is easier to keep them clean by sweeping and an occasional hosing than to have to scrub them individually or power wash them.

Step 2: Cleaning

If a hosing down won't clean your pavers, then you need to scrub the engraved areas clean to restore their beauty. Use a gallon of hot water to 1/8 cup of household cleaner to scrub them. Dip the scrub brush into the mixture and scrub until clean.

If there are stubborn stains in the engraving you may need to add  1/4 cup of bleach to the hot water mixture and saturate the paver. Let it stand for several minutes then scrub. Rinse with clean water.

If you have a lot of pavers, you may want to use a power washer for this job to save time. Turn the power washer on a medium pressure and clean.
