Save on your college dorm furniture budget by making your own white board. This useful type of reusable bulletin board can any size you choose, from a personal one to a larger community board. Follow the simple steps below to make your own dry-erase board at a fraction of the cost it would take to purchase one.
Personal White Board - Tools and Materials
- Picture frame
- Glass paint - white
- Foam craft brush
Step 1 - Prepare Glass
Purchase any size picture frame, remove cardboard backing and glass. Clean the glass and let it dry completely.
Step 2 - Paint Glass
Paint one side of the glass with white glass paint. Let it dry overnight.
Step 3 - Finish Up
Replace glass, painted side in back, and cardboard backing. Dry erase markers will wipe right off.

- Shower board (tile board)
- Thin plywood
- Liquid nails
- Mounting brackets
Step 1 - Cut Shower Board and Plywood
Purchase a sheet of shower board and a sheet of thin plywood from your local building supply store. They are both inexpensive and come in 4x8-foott sheets. Decide what size you want and have them cut both pieces the same size.
Step 2 - Glue
Use Liquid Nails to attach shower board, white side out, to plywood. Allow to dry overnight.
Step 3 - Mount
Attach mounting brackets to the back of your new white board and hang it on the wall for everyone to use.
