Decorative shutters can come in as many designs as you can imagine. Choosing the right design, though, depends on the type of theme or look you had chosen when having your house designed and built. If you have a Spanish themed home (or a beach house, a common Spanish style shutters option), it is often recommended that you go for Board and Batten shutters.
Board and batten shutters were usually used on the exterior of Spanish homes in small towns or on beach cottages. With the added advantage of being highly customizable by adding arches on the top, board and batten shutters are simple and give a Spanish feel to a house based on a similar theme.
They are shutters made from open-spaced vertical boards or boards joined together and kept in place by attaching a batten at the top and bottom. They are very much like Barn doors, but usually made with better quality wood. Depending on the type of wood you choose (common options include Vinyl, Cedar, Azek Composite, or Painted Composite) and how you want your shutters made, they can generally cost you from $45 to $100.
