You can easily eliminate mildew smells from your home using baking soda. This common household substance has been used for generations to neutralize unpleasant odors and remains one of the most popular home remedies for odor removal.
Step 1 - Remove Mildew
Before using baking soda to neutralize mildew odor, it is important to remove all of the mildew first. Warm water mixed with dish soap is a common remedy for mildew removal and may be used both before and after baking soda treatments. Simply soak a cloth or sponge in the water and soap mixture before vigorously scrubbing off visible mildew growth.
Step 2 - Apply Baking Soda
After treating the mildew problem, sprinkle a generous amount of baking soda to the affected area to eliminate the unpleasant musty scent. Allow the baking soda to sit for at least 3 hours before wiping it up with an ordinary dish towel.
Baking soda has the power to absorb obtrusive odors. Therefore, the longer the baking soda is allowed to sit, the more effective it will be at removing the unpleasant odor.
