Eliminating Mold on Hot Tub Covers

Lead Image

Hot tub covers are generally vulnerable to dirt, debris, and moisture that attracts mildew and mold. Because mold can weaken the vinyl of the tub cover, it is important that you keep the vinyl mold-free by following the steps below.

Step 1 - Set a Schedule

It is important that you schedule and perform a monthly cleaning and maintenance program.

Step 2 - Rinse Cover

With your garden hose, rinse your hot tub cover completely to remove any dirt or grime that may have collected on it.

Step 3 - Cleanse with Soap

Once you have rinsed your cover, cleanse it with a sponge and a gentle soap that is biodegradable. Your manufacturer’s instructions will tell you which type of soap is best to use for cleaning of your cover.

Step 4 - Dry the Cover

With a clean, dry cloth wipe off the water completely, so there is no moisture left on the acrylic.

Step 5 - Spray with Protectant

There are several commercial brands of hot tub cover protectants on the market. Spray on a generous amount on the vinyl. Use a damp, soft cloth to spread the protectant over the entire cover surface, then use a dry cloth to buff the cover.
