Fix Your Chipped Floating Shelf
A floating shelf with chips may be unsightly, but you can fix this using a few simple supplies. Depending on the location of the chips, you may need to remove the shelf from the wall. However, if the chipped area is fully accessible, you can perform the repairs without having to unscrew the shelf from the wall.
Step 1 – Clean the Chipped Area
Use 220 grit sandpaper to make the chipped area smoother. Clean the shelf using a mild detergent and a wet sponge, and then rinse.
Step 2 – Apply Wood Putty
Use a putty knife to apply a small amount of wood putty into the chip. Apply as much wood putty as you can fit, keeping in mind that the putty will shrink once it is dry. Once you have added as much wood putty as possibly, allow it to completely dry.
Step 3 – Sand the Area
Sand the area that you fixed with 330 grit sandpaper so that it will be smoother and ready for painting. Remove dust with a sponge.
Step 4 – Apply Wood Finish
Use wood finish over the patched area so that the repairs won’t be noticeable.
