Removing oil stains from a concrete driveway should be done quickly. One method is to pour cola over the stain, allowing it to sit overnight, then rinse with soapy water and finally with plain water. If this doesn’t work, try wetting the stain band then sprinkling baking soda or cornmeal on the spill. Scrub with a stiff brush and rinse. Dishwasher detergent powder can be sprinkled on and allowed to sit for a few minutes before being scrubbed in with boiling water and then rinsed away. Commercial concrete cleaners are the next option. Trisodium phosphate, or TSP, can be used on wet concrete and muriatic acid is a last resort. Between cleaning attempts rinse thoroughly and sprinkle baking soda on the area to neutralize the chemicals which may remain.
