Estimating How Much Propane You Will Need for Your Fireplace
A propane fireplace is a warm addition to any family room, den, or bedroom. Although there are other ways to warm your home, a fireplace will not only add extra warmth to a room, but also it will create a cozy and comfortable environment. Use these simple calculations to ensure you don’t run out of propane fuel while using your investment.
Checking the BTU Rating
Almost every fireplace measures its fuel-consumption rate in British thermal units, or BTU ratings. If you have a 100,000 BTU fireplace, you can expect to burn about one gallon of propane fuel per hour. If your fireplace is 30,000 BTU, you would use approximately one gallon of propane about every three hours, and so on.
Using Less Fuel
The main factor that will determine how much propane you will use is the temperature outside. If you live in a milder climate, you will not use as much propane in your fireplace as someone in a colder climate might.
When your heat is at full throttle, you will use the maximum amount of propane noted in your BTU rating for the fireplace. However, if you turn down the fireplace heat, you will use less fuel. To save propane and money, use your fireplace only when needed and at the lowest necessary temperature to warm the room.
