In various areas around the world, homes need downspouts to collect and carry the water from the half-round gutters down to the drain. If this is not done, the rainwater could cause possible damage to the structure of the house by eroding the soil that is present along the foundation and causing leakage down to the basement. In order to attach the downspout to half-round gutters, follow the steps described below.

Step 1 - Buy the Downspout

Before starting with the attachment, measure the length of downspout required with the help of a measuring tape and note down the measurements. Then go to the market and purchase the correct size and length. It is better to consult the person in charge of the shop before buying it.

Step 2 - Remove the Half-round Gutter

Remove the half-round gutter from the fascia brackets. To do this, first detach the gutters from their joining by removing their screws. Be careful not to fall off the ladder while removing it.

Step 3 - Cut the Downspout

Once the half round gutter has been removed from its place and the downspout has been bought, mark the outlet on the half-round gutters for downspout. The marking should be done on the area on the gutter’s lower end. In order to do this, you will have to place the gutter in a topsy-turvy position. Put the outlet on top of it. Use a marker and trace the inner side of the outlet on the lower end of the gutter.

Once a circular outline has been drawn, use a drill machine to drill a 1/4 inch hole in the outline. Now turn the round gutter upside down and use a drill machine in which hole saw of 4 inches diameter has been attached and cut a circular outline which is also a 4-inch diameter.

Step 4 - Install the Gutter

Place the gutter back from where it was removed. Make sure it tilts half an inch from the downspout outlet. This will allow the water to completely go through the downspout without standing in the gutters.

Step 5 - Attach Downspout to Half-round Gutter

Attach the outlets of downspouts to the holes that were drilled earlier. Secure the outlet with pop rivets. Once the outlet tube has been securely attached, fix a downspout elbow to it. Ensure that they are screwed together properly. Attach a downspout that has been cut according to the measurements between two elbow downspouts.

One of the elbow downspouts has already been fixed with the outlet tube. Crimp the elbows slightly with the help of needle nose pliers so they may fit perfectly with the downspout. Once that is done put the parts together using screws or pop rivets. Usually, two downspouts are required in a single-story building and three downspouts are required for a double-story building. Once everything has been fixed, run water through the half-round gutters, which in turn will pass through the downspout, to ensure that the water is not dripping from anywhere.
