Tee hinges are an excellent to attach your ledge and brace door to the door frame or gate post. These hinges can be both simple and decorative. Choose the size of your tee hinged depending on the weight of your ledge and brace door. Remember to attach your hinges to the door first and then hang it with the help of a partner.
Step 1 – Measure Hinge Placement
Make a center mark on the door’s ledges. Use your square to extend this mark longer than the hinge. Measuring the height of the door, note the center mark dimensions. Accounting for the space under the door, transfer the hinge center dimensions to the door post.
Step 2 – Pre-drill Holes
With the hinge at the door’s edge, lay the long arm of the tee hinge along the ledge center lines. Mark the screw hole through the hinge on the ledge. Remove the hinge and pre-drill the holes. Do the same on the door posts, centering the hinges on your marks.
Step 3 – Attach Hinges to Door
With the door lying flat, attach the long arms of the hinges to the door. Make sure the hinge can move freely at the door’s edge and is centered on the ledge. Attach the screws to half-depth first, tightening them when they are all in place.
Step 4 – Hang Door
With help, hold the door up to the door post. Attach 2 screws to half-depth in the top hinge and then do the same for the bottom hinge. Tighten all screws in the top hinge before securely attaching the bottom hinge. If any adjustments need to be made, it will be easier to make them on doorpost part of the hinge.
