All you'll need to tackle the job is a thorough instructional guide and the right set of tools. So if you've been toying with the idea of mounting your crystal clear HD television, read on to learn everything you'll need to know about the construction of television wall mounts.
Tools You'll Need
- A drill
- Drill bits
- An electronic stud finder
- A tape measure
- A hacksaw
- Grabber screws
- Weather strip tape
- Horizontal and vertical wall brackets
Step 1 - Cut Your Wall Brackets Down to Size
Begin this step by using your tape measure to determine the length and width of your high definition television. Once you've successfully made those measurements, use your hacksaw to cut your horizontal wall bracket down to a length that's slightly shorter than your television's width. Next, use your saw to cut your vertical wall bracket into two separate 12-inch pieces. Once your wall brackets have been properly cut, you'll be ready to move on to the next step.
Step 2 - Cut Your Notches
Now that you essentially have two vertical wall brackets, carefully inspect their ends. One end of each piece should feature a factory-made pre-cut notch. Take a moment to study these notches, then use your hacksaw to cut identical notches into the notch-less ends of each piece. Once both pieces have two notches--one on each end--you'll be ready to proceed with the next step.
Step 3 - Drill Your Mounting Holes
Having cut your notches, you're now ready to drill your screw holes. Begin this step by carefully lining your vertical brackets up with the mounting holes found on the back of your high definition television. Then use a pencil to draw "X's" over the spots where your screw holes will be drilled. Once your markings have been made, use your drill to produce the screw holes, then place weather strip tape on the sides of your vertical brackets that will be used to mount your television. Next, apply weather strip tape to your horizontal bracket's thicker side, as this is the side that you will be attaching to your wall.
Step 4 - Attach Your Brackets
Your television wall mount is almost complete. Begin this step by using your electronic stud finder to locate a suitable pair of studs in the area you wish to mount your television. Once they've been found, use a pencil to draw an "X" over each spot, then drill the appropriate holes for your stud screws. Next, position your horizontal bracket against your wall and use grabber screws to securely mount it. Having mounted your horizontal bracket, use a screwdriver to firmly attach your vertical brackets to the back of your television via the screw holes you drilled earlier. Now simply screw the newly attached vertical brackets into the lip of your freshly mounted horizontal bracket and you're all finished. Enjoy your brand new television wall mount.
So there you have it. Just keep these four easy-to-follow steps in mind and building your own television wall mounts will be a piece of cake.
