One of the less enjoyable summer activities is having to clean the plastic pool you bought for your kids. As much as they are fun to have, kids plastic pools do require proper care, otherwise they can become a breeding ground for unwanted bacteria. You can avoid mold and bacteria in your plastic pool by cleaning it following these instructions:

Step 1: Empty the Pool

Always empty your plastic swimming pool away from the place where you are going to clean it. The best bet is to empty it in the dry parts of your garden or flower beds that need watering.

Step 2: Rinse the Pool

Before cleaning, it is always advisable to rinse it thoroughly with clean water. This gets rid of any unwanted objects that may have gotten stuck in between bends and joints and will eliminate the need for you to rinse the pool repeatedly at a later stage.

Step 3: Use Cleaning Mixture

The best and quickest pool cleaning mixture that will get rid of any slimy bits is a simple mixture of warm water and vinegar. The recommended quantities are 10 parts of warm water and 1 part of vinegar.

If you go out in the market you will find a range of cleaning products but some of these may be too strong for the plastic material and cause more harm than good. Vinegar is cheap and easily available.

Immerse a piece of cloth in the water and vinegar mixture and clean the inside of the pool thoroughly. Make sure not to miss any parts of the pool. Once finished, make sure you dispose off the cloth that you used along with any left over mixture.

Step 4: Use Soap Mixture

Once you have cleaned the pool with water and vinegar mixture, make the soap mixture using the standard dishwashing detergent or soap and warm water. The mixture should be soapy enough for you to feel the slipperiness of the soap. Use a piece of cloth to apply the soap mixture to the entire pool and get rid of the cloth when you are finished.

Step 5: Bleach

Make a mixture using 1 part bleach to 25 parts warm water and apply the solution to the entire inside of the pool using cloth. This will make sure no germs or bacteria are left in the pool for future use. As with the last two steps make sure to properly dispose off the cloth and any excess mixture before proceeding further.

Step 6: Rinse

Rinse the cleaned pool with fresh running water in an area where you can have proper drainage as the used water would contain chemicals and can be potentially harmful for your garden.

Make sure to rinse the pool several times to make sure every ounce of chemical has been washed off. When rinsing, run your hand on the inside of the pool to release any stuck particles from the pool.

Your pool is ready to enjoy again!
