How to Clean Glazed Porcelain Tiles

Glazed porcelain tiles add a glistening beauty to any area where they are installed. They can be used for floors, countertops, backsplashes and tub surrounds. The cleaning of all of these areas is similar.

You Will Need

  • Mop
  • Bucket
  • Mild detergent
  • Broom
  • Vacuum cleaner with hose

Step 1-Preparation

These instructions are for cleaning glazed porcelain tiles on a floor but can easily be adapted to other areas.

Sweep the floor clean of any dirt, dust or debris. Use a soft broom or the dusting attachment on your vacuum cleaner. Do not roll a vacuum cleaner over the tiles as it can scratch or damage them. If you are moving furniture to clean the floor, be careful as porcelain tiles will easily scratch and crack if something is dropped on them.

Step 2-Cleaning

Fill the bucket about half full with warm water to which you've added a small amount of mild detergent. Be sure its well mixed. Dip the mop into it, wring it out and proceed to mop the tiles. Do the entire floor. Rinse the mop in clean water and fill the bucket half full with clean water. Rinse the floor. If you notice any areas that are still soiled, you can spot clean with a sponge and soapy water. Do not use scouring pads or scouring powder on glazed porcelain tiles. It is also not wise to use any acid based cleaning product such as vinegar or anything with lemon in it.
