How to Clean RV Toilets

All the living spaces in your RV have to be cleaned regularly, including the RV toilets. But remember that the toilet in your RV is different from the ones installed inside your home bathroom. Most RV toilets are connected to a plastic holding tank, that may be sensitive to harsh cleaners and deodorizers. Learn the proper to clean RV toilets, and enjoy a clean RV toilet all year round.

Tools and Materials Needed:

  • Soft sponge
  • Non abrasive RV toilet cleaner
  • Soft terry cloth towel
  • Hand gloves
  • Mild soap solution 
  • Warm water

Step 1 – Empty the Holding Tank

Refer to the user manual of your RV to remove and empty the holding tank prior to cleaning. It is also advised to empty the holding tank regularly, to prevent nasty odors from filling your bathroom and RV. Remember to wear gloves during the entire cleaning process.

Step 2 – Wipe the Toilet Exterior

Use warm water mixed with a mild cleaning solution, to wipe the lid and sides of the toilet. Use a soft cloth or sponge to get rid of dirt and stains on the toilet exterior.

Step 3 – Clean the Toilet Bowl

Mix warm water with a non abrasive RV toilet cleaner, and pour the solution inside the toilet bowl. Use a sponge or non abrasive brush to remove stubborn dirt and stains from the bowl.

Regular cleaning of RV toilets will only add a pleasant atmosphere to your RV, but will also contribute to the overall health of all occupants and family members.
