Many people do not know how to clean suede shoes properly and end up ruining this expensive purchase. Remember to only use products designed to clean suede. Keep these tips in mind when cleaning your suede shoes.
- Begin by rubbing the surface of your shoes with a dry washcloth to restore it.
- Use a suede eraser or pencil eraser to gently rub the area that is stained to lift any dirt or debris deeply embedded in the surface.
- Take a metal suede brush and brush the surface of your suede shoes in a circular motion to remove scuffmarks and smooth out the surface previously roughened by the erasing.
- Spray the surface of your cleaned suede shoes with a coat of suede protector.
To clean oil, water or stubborn stains that form on your suede shoes, dip a nailbrush in warm water and gently apply over the stain. Soak excess water with a dry cloth. Place shoetrees in your shoes to retain their shape and form and allow them to dry overnight. Brush the surface with a suede brush when they are completely dry, and spray a coat of suede protector.
If you still find traces of a stain, apply some white vinegar to a clean dry washcloth and buff the soiled area of the shoes.
