How to Convert a Gas RV Oven to Electric
Changing your gas RV oven to an electric one may prove to be a necessity under certain special circumstances. For example, you may be in a place where you do not have access to gas, not to mention that electricity is generally considered to be less dangerous to work with than is gas. Converting your RV oven’s power supply from gas to electricity might require some rewiring and a new oven. Follow the steps below to tackle this project on your own.
Step 1: Remove the Parts
First, remove your previously installed RV oven so you can access the wiring. Begin by turning off the gas supply to your current oven. Use a screwdriver to undo all the screws around the door, and take off the door, setting it safely aside. Locate the screws around the corners of your oven, and remove them.
Step 2: Get the Wiring Undone
Proceed by taking off the wires around your oven and the wall at its back. The new oven you purchased should come with its own set of new wires. You should find the wire box at the backside of the oven. Cautiously disconnect the gas line connected to your oven. Now you may remove the old oven from the oven cavity.
Step 3: Do the Wiring
Get your new oven out of its packing and connect the wiring. If you lack experience and a thorough knowledge of home wiring, it is highly recommended that you have an electrician to do this part for you.
Wrap Teflon tape around both ends of the electrical threads coming out and going inside the oven about 3 times. Tighten the electric fitting into the oven using a pipe wrench until it is snug.
Step 4: Install the New RV Oven
Once your electric wires are all in place, undo the oven door of your new oven and connect the wires. Lift the new oven into the oven cavity, and screw into place. Finally, install the new oven door, and cover or fill in any holes or gaps found around your new oven.
Step 5: Final Touches
Before you begin to use your RV oven, see to it that all your connections are tightly in place. Only then, switch on the electricity to test that it is working properly.
