A floor mirror in any room at home improves its appearance. It is a functional decor item too. Installing a floor mirror can be used to create a sense of more space and light in the room. A wall mirror that is not commonly used in the home can be converted to a floor mirror. It is possible to redesign it using a frame and stand so as to come up with a beautiful finish.
Step 1 – Dismount Wall Mirror
Identify the wall mirror to be converted to a floor mirror. A good idea is to take down one that is least used or is hung in an inappropriate area in the home. Use a screwdriver to loose the screws on the mirror. Be carefully when removing the screws so as not to shatter the surface.
Step 2 – Take Measurements
Locate the best place to position the new floor mirror that is to be constructed. This will help in redesigning the wall mirror. Consider placing it in hallways, on cabinet doors, end of stair ways, or hall. Generally it can be placed in any area to make it appear longer and to create an illusion of more space and light.
Measure the size of the mirror and keep this in mind when deciding about the new location. It will help get a good position in the home and also come up with an attractive design.
Step 3 – Buy a Frame
Using the measurements obtained, buy a suitable frame from a hard ware store or home supplies. The benefit of getting the measurements of the wall mirror is that it is possible to buy a ready to use frame and support.
Consider getting either wood or metal frames. Make sure to maintain the dominant home décor theme. If there are more wooden items with a certain color, then follow the same pattern so as to maintain one decorative theme in the home. Ensure that the frame is drilled with holes that will provide a strong support once the mirror is mounted.
Step 4 – Fix the Floor Mirror
Using the new frame or stand, get screws and a screwdriver and gently mount the mirror. Locate the holes on the frame or stand and position the screws at each point. Gently but firmly, drive in the screws using a screw driver. Make sure that they are tight enough and that the mirror is secure.
When fixing a mirror on a cabinet door, drill holes to correspond to those available on its surface. Before drilling, make sure holes will provide a proportional and even mount. Place the mirror on the cabinet door and position screws on each hole. Use a screw driver to fasten the mirror and make sure it is secure.
Step 5 - Clean Mirror
Use a clean rug to wipe away finger marks, dust particles and dirt from the floor mirror's surface.
